The application identifies a child’s mathematical strengths and weaknesses, and pushes content that will teach, challenge and reinforce mathematical knowledge.
It is designed to be used for 10 minutes every day on a tablet, allowing children to learn a new mathematical concept each week, reinforce prior learning, and practice and consolidate tables, addition, subtraction, and division facts.
The introduction of new work is unique to the individual child, and is based on prior performance within the application. In addition to the work generated automatically, a teacher can set work for a class, groups or individuals depending on what is required.
Children have their own pet avatar and receive ‘doodle stars’ for getting the right answers. The stars can be spent in the DoodleMaths pet store.
The teacher dashboard allows progress of a class to be monitored or checked on a weekly basis to see how each individual child is performing. This is useful at parents’ evening where a teacher can discuss with parents a child’s strengths and weaknesses in maths.
DoodleMaths is developing an early years solution for children aged 3 to 7. This should be available early this year and will include more video content.
For parents, the application costs £3.99 a month from the Apple App Store. A school can buy the application for 30 pupils at a cost of £4.99 per pupil for a year.
DoodleMaths is an inventive and imaginative product that is flexible and competitively priced.
